Ted Dansey
About Ted
Ted is a member, and former General Manager, of the Victorian Artists Society; a member of the Watercolour Society of Victoria; a member of ASMA (the Australian Society of Marine Artists); and a member of the Hobson’s Bay Art Society. He has been a practicing artist for most of his working life, being one of the lucky people who managed to combine artistic talent with work. Drawn towards an impressionist approach to painting, some of his favourite role models include John Singer Sargent, Edward Seago, Harold Herbert and R. W. Sturgess. Ted was made a Fellow of the Victorian Artists Society in 2011 for his contribution to the Society and Art. His work can be found in many corporate and private collections both here and abroad including the Victorian Artists Society’s private collection. He has had over 20 solo exhibitions since 2000, as well a number of group shows with artist friends, including ‘5’, and has a number of First Prizes and Commendations in various Art Shows.

Artist Statement
My work would - I think - be classified as impressionist, spontaneous, not fussy but honest. Watercolour is my medium of choice because it suits my personality best and I love it. Subject-wise I prefer anything that relates to en plein air which allows me to get outside or paint from the comfort of the studio, particularly maritime.
