Liz Moore Golding

About Liz

Liz has been an artist all her life, encouraged by her mother who was a professional fashion artist and watercolourist. Early on she enjoyed formal classes for many years with Ruth Tuck, noted Adelaide impressionist watercolour artist, and later had further tutoring in portraiture in a number of schools. However, after she became a member of the Victorian Artists Society in 2015, her art developed immeasurably. Much of this was due to being invited to become part of the untutored ‘Friday Group’ where they paint live models over two Fridays. Painting from life is what Liz does best, whether it is people or still life. She prefers to work in oil on linen and board, and for plein air, pens and watercolour, especially effective when travelling. Amongst her work Liz has illustrated books, and she has accepted a number of commissions.

Liz has participated in many group exhibitions and had three solo exhibitions. Her works have been awarded multiple times including twice Best in Show. She has been a finalist in The Kennedy Prize for two consecutive years. Her works are held in both Australian and overseas collections.

Artist Statement

My art is most effective when I paint what I see, be that still life, landscape or portraiture. I love using colour imaginatively and often paint in a style different from my colleagues. Impressionist and Fauvist artists have particularly inspired me. I do not wish to slavishly follow their style but admire the skill and tenacity they showed whilst using less sophisticated tools than the plethora available to artists today.
